‘"Everytime I feel the Spirit movin’ in my heart I will...” sing and tell stories of how stories, spirituals and indigenous songs move mountains in everyday life.’Saundra Porter Thomas is a "singing storyteller" and multi-cultural educator. She currently resides in Charlotte, NC and travels to tell her stories through song. While Saundra’s story-songs originate from African and African/American oral traditions, each speaks to the Universal "ties that bind" us all - stories. “Music from the churches I grew up in has become the foundation for everything musical in my life. The rhythms and calls and responses still ‘ground’ me and connect me to the rhythms of my ancestors and the earth.” Using a cappella vocal interpretations, Saundra connects with her audience and together, they bridge the past and present creating a living and singing tapestry. Saundra is a proud graduate of the Afro-American Culture Centers Teaching Artist Program. Saundra is available for performances, cultural lectures, song circle workshops, school and community residencies, churches, special events, fun-raisers and other community settings. Saundra is also founder and facilitator of Creative Holistic Interprises or CHI, a storehouse of creative life energy dedicated to the balance of Mind, Body, Soul and Spirit. CHI provides motivational, educational and spiritual empowerment workshops for children, adults, churches, corporations and community groups in safe and sacred environments. Through creative exploration, visionaries have the opportunity to discover and re-claim their innate gifts in safe and sacred settings – one story at a time.
