“To say Simon Brooks is a ‘natural storyteller’ would be true, but it would overlook how very hard Simon works to hone his craft. He’s a gifted actor, mimic, and humorist, and once he gets going children and adults have no choice but to follow his every word." Duncan McDougal - CLiF Simon Brooks is an British storyteller who has been living in the USA since 1994. Simon began telling tales for families and school groups whilst working for the Youth Hostel Association (England & Wales). He became a professional storyteller in 2003. Simon has performed for many libraries, schools, and private functions and festivals, telling to young children and adults in Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire and Vermont. He performed at the Connecticut River Festival, Big Splash, Wilder, VT; has been on the New Hampshire Summer Reading Roster for two consecutive years, and the Vermont Summer Reading Performers list for 2006 and 2008; performed at the 6th Annual Fiske Free Library Story Festival. Simon M.C.ed at the 2007 Northeastern ‘Sharing the Fire’ storytelling conference and performed the following year at the Friday Night Opening Concert of ‘Sharing the Fire’. He has entertained at the Hopkins Center, Hanover, NH for the HopStop series, and performed at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and at the Three Apples Storytelling Festival in Massachusetts.
Simon has two CDs out: "Second-hand Tales" and "More Second-hand Tales."
“Hi Simon - I wanted to express our marvelous experience with your CD. Recently I drove my two daughters plus three of their friends from the Upper Valley to Waterbury, VT for a visit to Ben & Jerry’s. The five girls, ranging in age from 5 to 9, got along well for the first part of the trip with little intervention on my part. But as we grew closer to our destination, the bickering began. In response, I put in your CD and played the first story, Anansi. The girls quickly grew quiet and all listened raptly. By the end of that story we had reached our destination, and I promised to play the remaining stories for the ride home. Before we were even in the car for the ride home, the girls were reminding me to play the CD. I put it in, and all five girls were completely silent and mesmerized from the very first word to the very last. Your storytelling CD did the impossible: we drove for approximately one hour without one word from five girls! Thank you, thank you - maybe there is hope for family road trips after all.” - Katrina McCurley, parent & children’s librarian, Dunbar Free Library, Grantham, NH
