Mabel Kaplan
STORIES FOR THE TELLING Mabel Kaplan offers storytelling sessions tailor-made to match both the occasion and the audience - be they young or old. Participants sparkle as they listen, join in and interact with the teller and the story. Mabel’s repertoires include personal stories ’out of the dust’ of Western Australia. From a young age her grandfather regaled her with songs and stories of the old world and tales of the Australian bush: pioneering and prospecting tales. Story is in her genes. She has a particular interest in oral histories (group, family and personal) and historically based fiction, as well as sacred and traditional folk & fairy tales from around the world. She weaves these threads together in a lively mix of stories, songs and poems in programmes for playgroups, schools libraries, camps, nursing homes, adult day centres, community groups and retreats. What others say: "Mabel’s warm, witty and disarming - and has that special rapport with kids that makes for great storytelling." - Carolyn Hicks, Bullsbrook District High School, 2006 "Mabel is the generous storyteller wo not only shares he stories to the delight of staff and students, but then inspires and assists the children to create their own. Ask her to tell ’The Tiger’s Whisker’ to a year 5 group and you’ll know what I mean." - Pat Burke, Teacher-Librarian, Our Lady of Mercy Primary School, WA, 2006 “At the 2005 Australian National Storytelling Festival Mabel’s closing story was amazing ... healing ... inspiring! It flowed over us like a final blessing.” Cecily Scutt, storyteller, writer and academic,Murdoch University, WA 2005
