Organic Storyteller

Dr. Gail N. Herman is a professional storyteller and educator who travels the U.S. telling stories and teaching teachers. She also teaches for Lesley College, Garrett Community

College and the University of Connecticut’s summer Confratute.

Dr. Herman’s tape "Stories and Songs of Creative Creatures" won a Parent’s Choice

Approval Award in 1996. Her other tapes include "Creatures of our Mind’s Eye" and Vol. I of

the "Tall Tale Liar’s Festival." Two of her stories are published in JOINING IN (Yellow

Moon Press) and SPINNING TALES; WEAVING HOPE: STORIES FOR PEACE

JUSTICE AND THE ENVIRONMENT (New Society Publishers).

"Organic" storytelling is her trademark. She uses "organic" interventions with students to make

the stories truly stories of the folk. She uses mime, movement, and percussion instruments.

She is the author of STORYTELLING: A TRIAD IN THE ARTS (Creative Learning Press)

and co-author of KINETIC KALEIDOSCOPE: EXPLORING MOVEMENT AND

ENERGY IN VISUAL ARTS. See the book TALES AS TOOL (National Storytelling

Association Press) for her article on how to arrange a finance student festivals.
