Organic Storyteller Dr. Gail N. Herman is a professional storyteller and educator who travels the U.S. telling stories and teaching teachers. She also teaches for Lesley College, Garrett Community
College and the University of Connecticut’s summer Confratute.
Dr. Herman’s tape "Stories and Songs of Creative Creatures" won a Parent’s Choice
Approval Award in 1996. Her other tapes include "Creatures of our Mind’s Eye" and Vol. I of
the "Tall Tale Liar’s Festival." Two of her stories are published in JOINING IN (Yellow
Moon Press) and SPINNING TALES; WEAVING HOPE: STORIES FOR PEACE
JUSTICE AND THE ENVIRONMENT (New Society Publishers).
"Organic" storytelling is her trademark. She uses "organic" interventions with students to make
the stories truly stories of the folk. She uses mime, movement, and percussion instruments.
She is the author of STORYTELLING: A TRIAD IN THE ARTS (Creative Learning Press)
and co-author of KINETIC KALEIDOSCOPE: EXPLORING MOVEMENT AND
