The Act!vated Storytellers present shows that stimulate imagination, emphasis critical thinking skills and build cultural awareness.
The Act!vated Storytellers are in perpetual motion both on stage and off. Since 1988, they have driven across the continental U.S. year-round in an RV towing a utility trailer full of props, costumes and sets to bring educational shows to schools, libraries, theatres, museums and anywhere children and their families gather nationwide. On stage they are a whirlwind of action, incorporating a wide variety of performance art skills to entertain, dazzle and educate.
We don’t just tell stories;
We Act!vate them
Choose from Multicultural Folktale Theatre, Solo Tellers and entertaining theatrical workshops.
Audience Participation Tales (Solo Teller)
45 minutes of stories with maximum audience participation for toddlers through Middle School and Family Audiences presented by Kimberly Goza
* Goldilocks and the Three Bears - The audience
learns American Sign Language as they help tell the story of the little girl who invites herself into the bears’ house, dines on their food, sits on their chairs and sleeps on their beds.
* Simple Ivan - The
story of the boy who just can’t seem to apply his mother’s advice to the appropriate situation, from Russia.
* The Egyptian Cinderella - the original Cinderella story - this one may even be true! Rhodopis
was a slave girl from Greece who was kidnapped and brought to serve Pharaoh Amasis in Egypt. She worked in the fields until one day when she caught the eye of the Pharaoh.
American Wonder Tales (Solo Teller)
Solo Teller Dennis Goza presents
three stories representing multicultural America.
* Davy Crockett - Born on a mountaintop in Tennessee, this legendary frontiersman outwits critters, frees the sun when it becomes frozen, and courts his future bride, who is equally
colorful.
* Niagara -A Native American nature myth from the Seneca tribe of New York, that not only
gives a fanciful account of how a spectacular natural wonder came to be, but also spins a cautionary tale about respecting the treasures of nature
* The Knee-Hi Man - An African-American fable from Alabama about self-esteem. A very short man grows
tired of being teased for his size, and asks the barnyard animals how to grow bigger.
Multicultural Folktale Theatre featuring TWO stories theatrically presented by actors with props, sets (a large over-sized book), costumes, tons of physical comedy and your students as part of the cast. Available nationwide through May 2009.
* Paul Bunyan and the Beesquitoes - the legendary larger-than-life lumberjack from Minnesota
* Anansi Goes Fishing - an Ashanti trickster tale from West Africa; this time Mr. Turtle gets the better of Anansi the "spiderman"
