CD Review: The Family Gazette
Posted: 2005-08-18 By SNStaff

"Glenda Bonin’s new CD, "The Family Gazette" highlights some of the best in a particular form of storytelling. ’Personal telling’ or ’personal stories’ are very popular not only for the ability to truly have your own stories to tell, but when done right they are an intimate examination of common human experiences. Glenda presents these types of stories in a deeply involving collection on CD or tape. You can envision Glenda discovering some treasures in the attic as she recalls her tapestry of relatives. Stories on the CD such as ’Motorcycle Momma’ are told in a style that’s endearing for adults and children alike. We think that Glenda especially shines on her story of ’Setting Liberty Free,’ as she explores the need for humans and animals alike to break free of the constrictions of others and become who and what they really are. Like all good tellers, the stories on this CD don’t manipulate or harass the listener to feel or respond in a certain manner, but leave the audience free to reflect or enjoy the stories in any way they please. Intended for all audiences, you’ll like the addition of "The Family Gazette" to your collection. On a side note, if you are a storyteller, pay special attention to how Glenda has taken family artifacts and used them as the basis to build some stories. It’s very cleanly done and hopefully will inspire you to do the same." -Storyteller.net Reviews
