Denver Conference Review
Posted: 2002-07-23 By Sean Buvala

Storyteller Glenda Bonin shares with us her informal reflections on the recent NSN Storytelling Conference held in Denver.

"I just got home from the NSN conference, and it was a
wonderful experience! I was particularly impressed by
the quality of workshops, intensives and speakers. It
was a grand time and will take me a while to process
all the information I obtained.

I was thrilled with the David Novak intensive, "The
Storyteller’s Compass: Evolving Unique Patterns of
Storytelling." (There was a lottery in order to get
one of the 36 seats available.) David is awesome, and
his work most on identifying and understanding
connections between stories is was truly impressive.
If I remember 10% of what he said, I will be a better
storyteller and presenter!

Yesterday’s keynote speaker, Clarissa Pinkola Estes,
Ph.D. was another remarkable event. Her thoughts on
"Mentoring: How to Be an Elder: The Gifts and The
Challenges," took me through almost every possible
reaction one could have. She is outlandish,
challenging and tremendously thought-provoking. This
is not the "standard" storytelling Keynote. . . If
the NSN offers an audio tape of her talk, I highly
recommend other storytellers to check it out. "
